Who can participate?

Agencies, service providers and anyone who serve and support those who experience autism across the lifespan including (but not limited to):

§ Residential Providers

§ Special Education-Elementary, Secondary, Transition Teachers

§ Parents/Guardians

§ DDD Case Managers

§ RSN Providers

 

How?

1.    Training participation of one or all trainings offered

2.    Tour Community Based “Best-Practice” resources on off training days and hours

3.    Network and Resource Organizing

Vancouver Public Schools – Specific locations TBA

 

What’s in it for me?

Cost:

§ $300.00 for each three day training see registration form for discounts

§ Time and expense is the responsibility of the participant

§ Light refreshments provided, bring a sack lunch/dinner

Series Trainers: 

Sally Ashfield Gibson, B.S., Autism Specialist has worked in the field of Developmental Disabilities since 1992.  She is a specialist in the assessment of individuals with autism and related communication disorders.  Her work involves using structure and visual strategies to provide predictability, independence, and competency to the lives of people on the autism spectrum.  Sally is an experienced statewide trainer in the Oregon Intervention Systems (OIS) and worked for Oregon Technical Assistance Corporation (OTAC) from April of 1998 to May of 2005.  Sally is currently in private practice in both Oregon and Washington.

Janet Burley is a classified specialist for the Camas School District.  She has worked for the school district for over fifteen years in many capacities including classified Autism Specialist for the first specialized High-Needs classroom.  Janet served nine years on ESD 112 Regional Autism Consulting Cadre, was named the Washington State Paraprofessional for 2000 and continues her work for the Camas School District.  Janet has been involved with autism support and training to residential and employment providers across the state of Washington.  Her strengths and interests are in visual supports and structured teaching strategies for students, adolescents and adults with Autism.

Monica Meyer of M Meyer Consulting, Inc., Autism and Assistive Technology provides technical assistance and training for adolescents and adults with autism at home, school and work.  In addition to her private business, Monica is the Executive Director for Autism Community Services a non-profit agency that provides training and services bringing Family, Provider and Service System together to create a successful community Life for Adults with Autism.  In the recent past Monica was appointed by Governor Christine Gregiore to the Caring for Washington Individuals with Autism Task Force and joined together with the University of Washington-Autism Clinic and other state agencies to develop the Autism Guidebook for Washington State, A Resource for Individuals, Families and Professionals.  She also Co-chaired and coordinated ESD112 Regional Autism Consulting Cadre for ten years.  The passion behind her work promoting community life for adults with autism is the direct result of her son Michael, a 27 year old who experiences autism.   Monica utilizes Best Practice-Antecedent Based Intervention strategies that support communication, choice, independence, and perspectives while incorporating structured and predictable environments.
